Our Story
Over the years, many curious clients have asked about the unique name of the salon. Alan and DeVonda knew they had a great concept when dreaming about having their own salon in Little Rock, Arkansas, but they knew they needed a name to reflect both the fabulous founders. So, they decided to 'cut' a portion of each of their names and marry some letters together to make something marvelous! 'DeV' represents DeVonda and 'Al' stands for Alan. This family owned and operated salon has a very Steel Magnolias meets Manhattan feel to it. You feel comfortable, yet you're certain to leave with a look that is current. Salon DeVal keeps their staff trained in trends ceaselessly with in-house education. Their talents are celebrated nationally as their team travels to places such as NYC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Nashville and Chicago.
About the Owners
DeVonda and Alan Byrd
Owners/Stylists
This husband and wife team are the heart and soul behind the Salon DeVal feel. They opened the salon in it's current location in West Little Rock in September of 1998 and it's been going strong ever since. DeVonda has over 25 years experience in the hair industry and specializes in color and highlighting. Her warm smile and sense of style makes any client feel at ease instantly. You're certain your hair is in good hands! After receiving a bachelor of science in business administration at Arkansas State University, Alan went on to become a licensed cosmetologist in June of 2000. He specializes in hair cutting, perms, Keratin complex smoothing systems and is a salon advocate for Sebastian products. He has trained under Nick Arojo in New York and Luis Alvarez with Aquage. Always coupling the cutting edge with the classic, Alan has impeccable tastes for a look that is timeless.

Lindsey Swain
Color Specialist/Stylist
Lindsey has been licensed in cosmetology over 20 years. She started working at Salon DeVal in 2003 after graduating from Plaza Beauty School in Memphis, TN. Her vast knowledge and experience is matched only by her dedication to each client. She specializes in multi-dimensional color techniques such as Balayage hand painting and Foil Highlighting. Lindsey also excels at Keratin Smoothing Treatments and haircuts for the entire family. Lindsey continues to further her education by attending classes with Wella and Sebastian regularly to stay on top of today's trends.
Dawn Marter
Colorist/Stylist
Dawn moved to Little Rock in 2019 and we are happy she joined the Salon DeVal Family! She brings with her over 18 years of experience as a Professional Hair Stylist, Color Specialist and former Salon Owner. Dawn specializes in precision hair cutting, Balayage hair painting, Highlights, Dimensional Color and Formal Styling. She focuses on every detail to create a polished, fresh look for every client and makes sure that the integrity and health of your hair is her top priority. Dawn prides herself on making all clients feel renewed and refreshed when leaving her chair; She wants to make sure your time with her is a pleasant and relaxing break in your day.
Mary Baugh
Colorist/Stylist
Mary is an outgoing, fun-loving girl who cultivates great relationships with her clientele. She is experienced in all aspects of hair care including coloring, blowouts, formal styles, smoothing treatments and haircuts for the entire family. As much as she loves hair cutting, Mary truly has a special passion for Balayage hand painted highlights and hair styling! She loves creating beautiful styles for her clients while helping them feel relaxed and making them look and feel their best.
Hayley Sledge
Salon Coordinator
Hayley started at Salon DeVal in 2008. She has always had a love for the beauty and fashion industry and after 10 years working in retail, she jumped at the opportunity to work at one of Little Rock's top hair salons. Hayley has a degree in Business Administration and specializes in customer service and communications. Her favorite things about Salon DeVal are the casual yet professional environment and the stellar customer service provided by all of the staff. She believes everyone has an amazing work ethic; they all blend well and bring out the best in each other.
Lillie Byrd
Receptionist/Social Media Specialist
Lillie has grown up in Salon DeVal; being the daughter of Alan and DeVonda. She recently graduated with a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and is passionate about social media and marketing. Shirley McDonald
Shampoo Technician
Shirley has been a member of the Salon DeVal team for over 20 years! She loves all of the clients she has met through the years and the friendships she has made with each of them. Shirley is the best at giving relaxing, massaging shampoos. If you are ever in the salon, be sure and ask for a shampoo by Shirley!
